CBN LATEST: GODWIN EMEFIELE TO BE SCREENED TODAY

The Senate will today commence the screening of Mr Godwin Emefiele for the position of the CBN Governor.Also expected to be screened is an Executive Director of First Bank,Mr Adebayo Adelabu as Deputy Governor-designate.
The President had earlier on February 20 sent the names of the duo to the upper legislative chambers for confirmation of their appointments.The appointments followed an earlier suspension of the erstwhile Governor,Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi over an alledged financial recklessness.
This was contained in the Notice Order Paper prepared on Monday for today’s plenary by the Senate Committee on Rules and Business.The screening is the first item on the Order Paper.

It read thus: "That the Senate do commit to the Committee of the Whole, the request of the President and of the Armed Forces, Command-in-Chief, for the confirmation of the following nominees - 1. Mr. Godwin Emefiele 2. Mr. Adebayo Adelabu - for appointments as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria respectively, in accordance with Section 81 (1) and (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007."
